DONE ... D-O-N-E ... DONE!!! but leaving OPT behind unless I pay for removal???

Recently got an HD TV to replace an old tube one. New Verizon Fios HD STB works, but with limited functionality - I can't activate online, record or pause live tv. Tech support has been no help. After spending 30 minutes live chatting with 2 diff depts, and 1.5 hrs on the phone last night (I refused to be switched between CS and Tech), turns out Verizon sent me two "plain" STB's instead of DVR's, despite my having multi room DVR on my account. Plus they have no record of ever receiving my old DVR's that I sent back in their packaging with their label.

After 14 years, I've had it. I'm finally done with the ineptitude.

I asked how soon they could remove their equipment when I cancel. They said they leave their OPT on premise (probably thinking we'll switch back, um, NOPE) - but if I want a tech to come out to remove it, I have to make an appt (you wanna bet it won't be at a convenient time for us?) and I'd have to PAY. This makes me absolutely furious.

Does anyone know of a workaround for this, or has anyone had luck getting Verizon to remove their equipment without having to pay for the luxury?
