Re: FiOS TV One boxes & HDMI-CEC?

I just went through this with my Denon AVR-1909 receiver, when I upgraded from the Verizon Fios VMS-1100 to the new Verizon Fios One VMS-4100 and Fios One Voice Remote.

As it turns out, every time you power on the VMS-4100 with the Fios One Voice Remote, it resets the source (input) on your receiver (on the Denon, it resets to the default "VCR" source for HDMI 3).  This also "defeats" the "set to last used input" feature of the Denon receiver.  I had (for last decade or so) connected the Verizon STB/DVR to my receiver via the TV/CBL input (which I reassigned on the receiver to HDMI 3).

The HDMI-CEC settings on the new Fios One Voice Remote apparently messed this up, as described above.  In fact, you can even turn the Fios One VMS-4100 on and off at the box itself without affecting the input to your receiver (i.e., the input to receiver will stay at the "last used setting" if you turn the receiver and/or STB off and on again).  BUT, if you turn the Fios One STB off/on with the Fios One Voice Remote, it will always reset the input on the receiver (eg, to "VCR" on the Denon AVR-1909).

The solution?  I left HDMI-CEC on, but reassigned the receiver's VCR input source to HDMI 3 (ironically, the receiver's default), renamed the source to Fios One and now all is well.

I just went through similar issues with my Denon AVR-1909 receiver, when I upgraded from the Verizon Fios VMS-1100 to the new Verizon Fios One VMS-4100 and Fios One Voice Remote.

I was able to enter the diagnostics and user changes menus mentioned in this thread, but did not see any way to defeat the remote's resetting of the input on my receiver, or to change the selected input as needed.  Perhaps I just missed them, but . . .

Audio issue with VMS1100; sound only works when cycling TV input?

We've had FiOS for many years. Just got upgraded to "FiOS One" and the new VMS1100 box. Hooked it up to our Vizio TV just like we had the old FiOS box hooked-up (via HDMI cable). Video works fine, but for some reason the audio from the FiOS box will only work if we switch the input on the TV (HDMI1, HDMI2, HDMI3, etc) away from the FiOS box and then *switch back* to the FiOS box! In other words, if we have the HDMI1 input selected (which is where FiOS box is connected) and we power-down the TV, then turn the TV back on.... video will work but there will be no sound. If we then switch to another input then switch back to HDMI1, the sound works. Any idea what could possibly be causing this? Our previous FiOS box did not behave like this.

Other things I've done:

- Tried different HDMI inputs on the TV, same result

- Tried different HDMI cords, same result

- Tried switching audio setting within the FiOS box from "Surround" to "Stereo" but same result

- We use a Vizio soundbar for audio, but it makes no difference whether it's the soundbar or the built-in TV speakers... same phenomenon is happening where there is no audio coming from VMS1100 to TV until we switch HDMI input and then switch back to box

Thanks in advance for any help!

Even if they have good quality, you may be blocked. FiOS app only works within the US. If the Internet appears to be international, you will not be able to stream.

Is connection passing through the Vizio to TV or direct to TV and then to soundbar (invariably via optical out)?

If doing pass through, I know Verizon has had some issues in the past.

Using optical out can allow multiple connections to TV to always use the soundbar.

Verizon reps keep saying different things, no internet

Thanks for the reply!

The FiOS box is connected to the TV via HDMI, and then the soundbar is connected to the TV via optical. So the FiOS box's audio connection is passing through the TV. Could you clarify the issues that Verizon was having in the past? Anything that can be done? Is it faulty hardware or something else?

Thanks again.

FIOS One upgrade forced upgrade to Premium DVR, unable to go back to Advanced

Upgraded to FIOS TV One, and they "automatically" upgraded me to Premium DVR service with 2 media servers, which I did not want, nor ask for.

I've spent hours on the phone with Verizon trying to get this resolved, talking to so many people. Everytime they put in an "order" to downgrade back to the Advanced service, it never ends up going through and disappears into Neverland.

I remember reading on the forums about some people trying to upgrade to FIOS TV One online, and it made them select Premium DVR service when they did. I think this must be related, because I upgraded to Fios One over the phone, and there was never any mention of upgrading from Advanced to Premium at that time, and no one seems to be able to downgrade the service. I've been transferred to a ton of different departments and have spent hours on the phone with Verizon trying to get this simple request done, but it seems impossible.

DVR Programming

It is SO frustrating trying to manage series recordings on my DVR.  It takes forever to find a show (why isn't it in alphabetical order, it's CRAZY) and then it takes forever after you modify to SAVE it. Sometimes it takes and sometimes it doesn't.

So I go on-line to program my DVR via my laptop and all it says is: can't access TV information.  This is SO frustrating!!!  Verizon DVR is HORRIBLE.  How can I modify shows or even delete shows without being able to do so on the computer and the TV takes FOREVER.  Am I alone in this?

Over a week now and still no response from Fios on this issue. Also found the Fios One box only outputs Dolby Digital via HDMI. Cannot be changed in the service menu to LPCM as this only passes stereo. Pass thru option does nothing, so you never get the actual sound from anything you watch as I used to from the older boxes.

There were handshake issues when passing through sound bar to TV. Was software issue. Don't remember if it was the vms1100 or previous stb. No reports on the vms4100 I have seen. Do you have more than 1 stb? If so, have you swapped them around?

How many stbs total do you have? If you happen to have more than 5,  then you have to have 2 VMS. 5 or less, you should be able to downgrade.

What model DVR do you have?

Series are listed in priority order.

Priority order comes in to play if you have more shows recording than available tuners. Higher priority series get recorded first.

Have you tried rebooting router and DVR?

What did you guys do to make the new boxes so bad?

Just upgraded all our old equipment and am missing the old boxes.
1st...no more clock display on the front
2nd when you turn em on, instead of opening to the channel its on it opens to a useless Fios page that only has one option, to continue, so have to hit menu, then that opens the menu screen where they try and sell you stuff/programs. so need to exit that.
3rd ...after a certain time watching tv it will just automatically exit your program and go to that fios screen so you get to repeat the above sequence just to continue watching your show.
Thats after 1 day so im sure theres much more I'll find that I dont care for.

YES.  Same here.  And it's been like this for months.  So annoying.

How about a fix, Verizon?

"Enjoying your free preview" popup again!

Hello

Once again, when I tune to Stars/Encore, I'm getting a popup that says: "Enjoying your free preview. ORDER NOW. Press"OK" for more info." This is the case even though I pay for Stars/Encore. The message appears evey time I change to antoher Stars/Encoure channel and hang for about 15 seconds in the upper right corner before disppearing. This has happened before, but I thought tech support fixed it, if I remember correctly.

Today, tech support tried lots of different things, inclding resetting my DVR before telling me that it simply can't be fixed. Tech supprot told me says that there IS a free Stars/Encore preview until Sunday, at least in the New York area, and that EVERYONE gets this message, including those who have ordered Stars/Encore. I find this hard to believe. (You would think it would result in a flood of phone calls and online posts. The last one I see is in 2015 about this.) So is everyone here with Stars/Encore getting this message now? And is there any way to stop it from coming up? It's really annoying, especially when we channel surf.

Thanks!

Can't do anything about the clock.

The other two issues can be rectified in settings.

power down can be addressed by setting auto power off to none.

there should also be a setting for default power in channel.

also go through and turn off everything like recommendations, interactive TV, etc.
